The Calendar was sent around.
Last month's minutes were approved as published.
Her Excellency reflected that much went on at Mayfaire. Lots of people received Crystals, including Nadia, Rebecca and Cat. Lots of people received their Award of Arms, including Cat, Rebecca and Domarr as well as Edward the Smith. Idanthrysis received his Laurel. It was established that there was no real precedent to protect current or former Barons or Baronesses from receiving the Strawberry, given this year to Sweet Lord Domarr.
His Excellency spoke to the owners of the Northwest Equestrian Center who are now willing to negotiate terms with Glymm Mere for future use. This would be a good time to negotiate a contract for next year's events, particularly Mayfaire, and gives our future autocrats more options.
Their Excellencies gave kudos to the Mayfaire autocrat team for the smooth operation and success of the event. They thanked Wolfgang and Aedan for organizing the Rapier Championship, won by Chris van den Wald, and to Sir Walter for organizing the heavy tournament. The Arts & Sciences pavilion ran well and looked very good.
There are still dags available on the Arts & Sciences pavilion for sale - the rest will be painted blue.
Mistress Regina announced her intention to be considered to succeed Their Excellencies.
The Exchequer reports that we have a balance of $28,676.92 with $18,346.03 in obligated funds and $10,330.89 in non-obligated funds.
Financial Committee recommended a budget for the Indoor/Outdoor Summer Seafood of $250 with gate fees of $7 for members, $10 for non-members. The Barony would provide clams, oysters, and roast beef. Site is Skookum Hall in Shelton. Autocrat is Ceridwen Lorne. The populace approved the budget.
Financial Committee recommended a budget for the Sowen Masquerade Ball and A & S Championship on the 23rd of October. It will be a potluck followed by dancing in the evening. Autocrat is Nadia, request is for $1270, $500 refundable for total of $770. Site fees of $9 for members, $12 for non-members. The populace approved the budget.
Financial Committee recommended a budget for Yule Feast with Vasalisa being autocrat and Maeve the feast-o-crat at Millersylvania. Total request, including allowance for printed linen napkins, is $1500. Site fee with feast is $15 for members, $18 for non-members. For picnickers site fee is $5 for members, $8 for non-members. The populace approved the budget.
The Chatelaine received 1 email from someone who spoke to Sir Walter at Summer Seafood last year.
The Marshal reports that 32 heavy fighters signed up for the open tournament at Mayfaire, though 6 were not authorized. Sir Thias won the Overall. In part of the competition, Master Idanthrysis took 1st, Micah took 2nd, and Wolfgar was 3rd. There were no armor failures, plenty of water and everybody had a good time. Fight Practice is going fine. The loner armor needs work and more new fighters are coming. There was 1 injury due to equipment failure.
The Archer reported that he tried different things at Mayfaire for shooting and they worked great. The Wands and Garlands were very popular.
The Archer is seeking a Thrown Weapons Deputy. The Barony has equipment for thrown weapons.
One of the Saunders mats needs repair.
Jordan Catharne won the arrows for the Juniors at Mayfaire, no one competed in the Seniors division, Romi of Monsarat won the 80+ division and the period arrow kit. Aean won the 80- division and will receive a set of arrows made by Archos Aleksei. Romi of Monsarat also won the Thrown Weapons competition and received a spear tip. There was good participation in the blanket shoot on Sunday.
The Arts and Sciences pavilion was broken in nicely and immediately filled with people doing artsy sciencey things at Mayfaire. More space is needed. Adding awnings may help.
The Chirurgeon reported that Mayfaire had one sleepless night with a big owwy, pulled 6 splinters, couple of blisters from walking without socks, and a puker. Master Gabriel showed up to assist on the rover.
Master Gabriel assisted in expediting Ceridwen's warrant.
The Constable reported that at Mayfaire she reported to a report of a thumb laceration, had lots of false alarms of people calling for help near the river. There were 2 searches along the river in the night which triggered a noise complaint from neighbors. The Pierce County Sheriff drove through the site. There is the possibility of having the Sheriff do so by arrangement. There were many found items. Only 2 items were reported as lost and were returned to their owners. There are lots of dishes from the Baronial Breakfast in a box that will eventually be placed in the Baronial Storage Locker. There was 1 lost child that returned to his encampment on his own after an hour-and-a-half. Sunday morning Pierce County Sheriffs responded to a call, but the individuals left site prior to their arrival. 1 individual had to be escorted to his encampment and volunteered for a shift assisting with constabulary the following night. Though there was only 1 person signed up to help, there were 5 or so people that assisted.
Clarion is seeking to renew his Constable Warrant. He was a great help to the Constable and the Herald.
His Excellency relayed that Aedan the Silent suggested that the Barony consider pay for an Officer to be on duty at events on Friday or Saturday nights and do a walkthrough of the site. Her Excellency mentioned that at some events in Mason County officers were told they were welcome to come on site and partake of refreshments that were made available and that the periodic arrival of the officers on site made a noticeable difference.
The Constable reported that the Fire Department drove through the site on Friday morning.
The Interim Herald reports that heraldry nights have been happening.
The Interim Herald would like to anyone who is interested in becoming the Herald to contact her. There is a great deal of support for anyone who is willing - knowledge is not required.
Heraldry night will be changing location to Baron David's residence. The Key Bank location is still available, but Kateryn of Falconkeep is unable to get the key during the day.
The Chronicler reports that there are 30 issues of the Looking Glass being sent out, plus the 5 for the Chatelaine.
The Chronicler is looking at different ways of doing the Looking Glass, such as email subscriptions, but more information is required.
Wittanhaven reports that the Highland Games have been renamed to the Scottish Festival. We are not doing Super Saturday because it is conflicting with Honeywar.
Seneschal reports that she has another deputy - Ceridwen Lorne. As mentioned in the Constable's report, Law enforcement was called on Sunday at Mayfaire. The paperwork has been turned in to the Kingdom Seneschal.
The Admin Retreat is up in the air do to fund difficulties.
The Chamberlain reports that stuff went, stuff came back, stuff needs to be fixed. The Chamberlain will go through things to see what needs to be repaired. The signs are in need of repair. The Baronial pavilion needs repairs. The Seneschal suggested that we contact Tumwater Rentals to find who does repairs on their pavilions. There will be new bags made for the aric poles. There is a need for another pavilion for Gold Key. The new tabards were buried near Chirurgeon's Point during Mayfaire.
The Governing Document Committee will happen Tuesday (5/11/04) at 6pm for dinner, 7pm for the meeting at the Garden Room at Coco's.
Mayfaire autocrat Natasha reported that other autocrats for future events requested details of how the site was laid out. The chief complaint was that there were not enough biffies, and the chief praise was for the space for day shades near the arics. Initial figures show about a $6000 profit.
Mistress Regina reported that her pilgrimage to Druim Doineann was pleasant. They had 8 fighters and though less than 100 overall, that was a large event for them. Most of the participants were from Dragon's Laire. Their court sends thanks to Glymm Mere for thinking of them.
Honeywar autocrat John Catharne reported that we still didn't know who we were going to be fighting. He has all positions filled.
The Chirurgeon urged everyone to use sunscreen at Honeywar. The "Attack Chirurgeons" were effective and generally approved of.
The contract for the property has been sent in and arrangements have been made for additional biffies.
The castle wall will be delivered, but we must build it.
There will be a Honeywar meeting 5/18/04 at 7pm at Key Bank.
Natasha requested the cost of 2 folding tables, 2 folding chairs and 2 lanterns with hard cases totaling $198.54 purchased with Mayfaire funds be transferred to the Barony and out of the Mayfaire budget. The request was approved by the populace.
Sir Walter suggested the List Board be revamped and used.
Her Excellency reported that there will be Ballista Golf at Fibers & Fletching.
