Jon Erik's Name and Device
Both Jon-Erik's name and his device were puns. He was an old time SCA member and believed in the power of silly things.
The name Jon-Erik or Jan-Erik were both plays on the word Generic. He used to say he had to settle for Jon-Erik because he couldn't document Gen!
His device was black and white because for a while grocery stores carried black and white labeled foods called generic brands. :) And it had a dot in the center because it was a "period" device. So it was his "Period Generic Device" Just as his personas were born around 1000 AD because it was the middle of the SCA time period.
He loved to tell the story of his name and device to anyone who would listen.
