Lady Soraya Abdo & Lord Wilfred Josephson

Greetings unto the populace of faire Glymm Mere! We appreciate this opportunity to present ourselves, and we truly thank you for taking this time to read through some of our views and our ideas.

Soraya has lived in Glymm Mere her entire (except for college years) life, and Wilfred moved here from Dragon's Laire nearly seven years ago, when we got married. We both have had extensive community theater backgrounds, and are intrigued by the possibility of getting more involved as a 'director' of sorts in the theater of the SCA.

Soraya is a former baronial Chronicler, and is well known for her baronial and Kingdom charter painting as well as belly dance performing and teaching. Wilfred is the current baronial A&S Minister, an authorized rapier fighter and cadet to the elusive Don Magnus. Rapier fighting, music and the arts and sciences consume much of his SCA time.

We have hosted project nights, revels and bardic evenings. We have autocratted events. We played instruments (fiddle, recorder and harp) in Mistress Piper's baronial orchestra, the Glymm Mere Consort, for a year. We have both played our instruments at kingdom and baronial events and courts, as background music for many years. We participate at both the kingdom and baronial levels.

Glymm Mere is one of the most populated baronies in the kingdom of An Tir. There is such a hard-working, dedicated core of members who keep our local events running smoothly. One of our main goals as Coronets would be to swell the ranks of this core membership, creating a larger pool of autocrat and officer candidates to help with running events and meetings. We firmly believe that there is room in the SCA for players attending meetings and gatherings several times a week, as well as the casual players who are able to attend only a few weekends a year.

Another of our goals as Coronets would be to promote Glymm Mere events and artisans as we visit other branch and Kingdom events. There are so many talented people here within our boundaries; it would be a pleasure to have the opportunity to spread their word-fame farther into the Knowne World.

A favorite aspect of the SCA is the pomp and circumstance of the SCA. We would take it as our responsibility to keep our courts entertaining and accessible to everyone. Court is essentially a stage performance, and we would make it our priority to ensure that the attending populace would be able to hear and understand what was going on at all times. We enjoyed the storyline of the "kidnapped Baroness" at our last Yule Feast, and would like to see similar scenarios and storylines in the future.

The SCA will soon be 43 years old, and some of the "old" stories and personas seem to have been forgotten or lost to the sands of time. These are the stories of our beginnings, and of our Society's journey. Another of our goals would be to keep fresh the stories of people and events of our SCA history.

Wilfred is now telecommuting full time. Soraya has a part time hobby based business. Because we are lucky enough to be working from home, we have the luxury of being extraordinarily flexible with our time.

Text of our Letter Of Intent

Unto Their Majesties, fierce Cedric and graceful Elizabeth: Unto Their Excellencies, Don Wolfgang von Bremen and HE Juliana MacPherson: And, unto the populace of faire Glymm Mere herself do we send greetings and well wishes.

By Your leave, with this missive we now add our names to the list of parties interested in serving Glymm Mere as Baron and Baroness. If selected as the next Coronets, it is our intention to continue serving the Barony in many of the same ways we have in the past. We would continue to promote the Barony as we have been, in and around An Tir. We would continue to talk about SCA history. We would also continue to support the arts and sciences, from Middle Eastern dance to needlework to shoe making and music. We would continue to embrace the baronial motto: " 'Tis a Silly Place," and we would continue to host revels and birthday parties.

We have consulted many of An Tir's past and present Coronets, and have been given both their encouragement and their support. We feel that this support would help us navigate the difficult roles of Inspiration, arbiter and public figure. We have been married for six years, and have learned a lot about how each other thinks. We have come to embrace our strengths, and to improve our weaknesses. Our presence would focus on an effort to attract all the corners of the SCA: from the casual player to the paid members who hold degrees in their areas of interest.

We feel that we would make a solid choice as the next Coronets of Glymm Mere. We anticipate with delight the beginning of the polling process, and look forward to the journey ahead.

In service to the Dream,

Lord Wilfred Josephson Lady Soraya Abdo
